Titan awarded five lucky paint contractors with brand new custom cargo trailers as part of the 2014 Great Titan Trailer Giveaway. Partnering with Sherwin-Williams, Titan sponsored the giveaway to recognize and show appreciation for all the hardworking paint contactors who put their trust in Titan sprayers every day. They chose trailers because, like Titan sprayers, trailers are important tools that make it possible to work more efficiently and grow the bottom line.
The lucky winners received their trailers in September and October at events held at their local Sherwin-Williams store. Titan presented them with the trailers, alongside each winner’s local Sherwin-Williams representative. The 12-foot trailers are “ultimate toolboxes on wheels,” outfitted with rear ramp doors, ladder racks and seven-foot ceilings. In addition, the winners received $400 from Titan for adding their business logo to the trailers.
Meet Lucky Winner Kelly Anderson
FreshCoat PaintingBurnaby, British Columbia firstname.lastname@example.org
Kelly remembers the first day his career started in the direction of painting. It was May 1, 2006, and he was working on a large residential project under the supervision of a man who had incredible passion for detail and perfection. “I fell in love with painting that day,” Kelly said. “I liked the detail work, and that you could see results right away.” For two years, Kelly worked with his mentor and learned a great deal. Then, in 2008, he started his own company, FreshCoat Painting. About 75 percent of his work is residential business, and the other 25 percent is commercial, most of which is are located in North and West Vancouver, B.C.The new trailer came at a perfect time for Kelly. “I was working out of an older van for four years and it was failing me,” he said. “So winning the trailer was a huge bonus for me and my business. It’s just absolutely awesome, and a big surprise, especially since I had completely forgot that I entered to win it! I’m very happy.”“I like all the Titan airless sprayers that I’ve used, and really like the idea of the new FlexSpray,” said Kelly. “I recently had an opportunity to try the Capspray Series HVLP unit and loved it. I think I’ll be investing in that one soon, along with an Impact 440, which I’ve heard nothing but good things about.”Kelly has a strong passion for painting with perfection, and it shows. He takes a lot of time and care in his work. “The job I probably take the most pride in was in North Vancouver,” he said. “It was a new build Heritage style home with big, thick chunky stucco. I did all the interior and exterior paint spraying, including fine finish spraying the trim. It was a three-week project and it turned out beautiful.”
Connections at Sherwin-Williams and Titan
Kelly’s main contact at Sherwin-Williams is Les LaFrance, who is a sales representative in the Vancouver area. It was in the mid-1980s when, at the urging of his grandparents, Les applied for a job at General Paint in Surrey, British Columbia, and got it. Fast forward to today and Les has reached a milestone of 30 years with General Paint, which is now part of Sherwin-Williams. “What I like the most about my job is the people, and keeping customers happy by getting them what they need,” said Les.
Gord Parsons is the Titan representative for a large territory in Western Canada, including Vancouver. “I’ve worked with Les for more than 15 years,” he said. “He has a long history in the paint industry, and is very good at his job.”
In late October, Gord and Les delivered the new Titan “ultimate toolbox in wheels” trailer to Kelly at his local Sherwin-Williams store. Kelly was excited, and according to Gord, “really happy.”
Congratulations Kelly! Enjoy your new wheels.
Chip owns and operates Kiper Construction in Leavenworth, Kansas. His company provides professional interior and exterior residential painting, remodeling and home repairs, mainly in Leavenworth County. Chip, who considers himself an artisan as well as a construction pro, particularly enjoys working on projects that involve historical renovations. With 21 years in the painting and construction industry, Chip said that winning the trailer from Titan happened at just the right time. It will allow him to take his business to the next level – something he’s been working toward and planning to do. The trailer is a boost and will help make it happen. For Chip, having the proper tools has been a major key to success. “I know my Titan will work,” he said. “It has not let me down in 12 years. It’s performed so well for so long, I sometimes wonder how Titan stays in business with tools that last that long.”For every job, large or small, Kiper Construction applies the same attention to detail and quality workmanship. Chip takes great pride in his craftsmanship, work ethic, and integrity. With the tools, education, and experience to complete most projects, he views the entire home as an interacting system. Whether it’s painting, remodeling or home repairs, Kiper Construction arrives on time and gets the job done correctly, from start to finish. And when it comes to paint quality, Chip had this to say, “More than a decade ago, I stopped allowing homeowners to supply paint for jobs. Since then, I have insisted on Sherwin-Williams paint, stain, and caulk for quality reasons. For instance, the paint is fresh and doesn’t clog filters. When compared to cheaper products from big box stores, Sherwin-Williams is less expensive in the long run. Two coats lasts longer than three or more coats of watered down paint, so it’s the way to go, especially considering labor costs are two-thirds of most jobs.” He added that new homebuilders would save themselves and homeowners money if they would stop using anything without the Sherwin-Williams label.
Connections at Sherwin-Williams and Titan
A long-time Sherwin-Williams customer, Chip purchases most of his paint at the Sherwin-Williams store in Leavenworth. Bobby Miller, the store manager, is one of Chip’s main contacts there. “Bobby knows more about paint than anyone else,” he said. “Whenever I’m facing a difficult project, his advice never fails. And I know that when I fax or call in an order, my paint will be ready on time – every single time.” With 14 years under his belt as a Sherwin-Williams store manager, Bobby says, “All around, I really enjoy what I do. And it helps that I’m always surrounded by great people – from district management, to customers and manufacturer’s reps – I work with the best.”
When Bobby and Chip need Titan products or services, they call on Mark Maggio. Mark has been a Titan representative since 2007 and spends his time traveling and visiting customers in Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas, which includes a stop in Leavenworth. He has been in the painting industry most of his life, starting as a paint contractor before becoming a Titan representative. “I’ve known Bobby Miller at Sherwin-Williams for many years. He’s a great guy to work with and takes good care of his customers,” said Mark. “He’s actually the person who suggested to Chip that he enter the contest for the Titan trailer. Chip was so excited when he picked it up. We had a celebratory pizza party for him at the Leavenworth Sherman-Williams store, and he brought his parents, his wife and one of their sons along. He said the trailer was just what he needed for his business, which is exactly what we’d hoped for.”
Congratulations Chip. Enjoy your new Ultimate Toolbox on Wheels!
Meet Lucky Winner Jesse Powning
Banyan Builders, Inc.Redmond, OR email@example.com
Jesse’s company, Banyan Builders, provides interior finishes and exterior painting, drywall, framing and siding construction in central Oregon. Lately he’s been focusing on commercial and public works projects, such as public libraries, and facilities for baseball fields and state parks. Jesse said he couldn’t believe it when he opened the FedEx package with a notice that he won a trailer from Titan. “It was surreal at first,” he said. “What a nice surprise, especially since we had been working primarily out of an old metal horse trailer. I’m very thankful to Titan.” At the young age of 18 when he was hired to work on a hotel remodeling project, Jesse was first attracted to construction. “I liked it because there was something different to do every day,” he said. After partnering with a company for a few years, he started Banyan Builders in 2013. For years, Jesse has used a Titan Impact™ 440 sprayer. “We have a few sprayers that are not Titans, and to be honest, they usually stay in the trailer,” Jesse said. “The Titan sprayers are very reliable.” In addition to onsite painting, they often pre-paint siding and tongue and groove before installation, gaining efficiencies on the job. Banyan Builders’ motto is “We love what we do, and it shows.” With a proven track record and many years of experience, customers know that by hiring Jesse, they will receive the highest level of service and quality results.
Connections at Sherwin-Williams and Titan
Jesse’s main contact at Sherwin-Williams is Mike Peters, an outside sales representative in central Oregon. Mike grew up in Ohio near Sherwin-Williams’ corporate headquarters, so was familiar with the company at a young age. His father, who worked at a Sherwin-Williams store in high school, encouraged Mike to apply there after graduating from college. So, he shot off a resume and got the job. Today, Mike has a rich 29-year tenure with Sherwin-Williams that includes eight years managing stores, followed by 21 years in outside sales. “I enjoy the paint industry, especially because I work for Sherwin-Williams,” he said. “It’s a well-managed company with quality products. And in my position, it’s an honor to work with such professional, good quality business people every day.”
To celebrate Jesse’s good fortune winning the trailer, Mike Peters and Dave McClellan, the area Titan sales representative, hosted a barbecue at the Sherwin-Williams store in Redmond, Oregon. “I’ve been working with Mike Peters and customers in the area for a number of years,” said Dave. “So in addition to presenting Jesse with his new trailer, we had a party and invited customers to stop by for lunch and congratulate Jesse. He was very thankful and appreciative, especially since the trailer was something he really needed for his business.”
Congratulations Jesse! Enjoy your new trailer.
Meet Lucky Winner Larry Scarbrough
Larry & Co DecoratorsHumboldt, TN 731-787-612
Larry is the proud owner of Larry & Company Decorators in Humboldt, Tenn. Established in 1981, Larry & Company Decorators is a full service residential painting company that works primarily in the west Tennessee area, within about a 100-mile radius of Humboldt. When he received notice that he won the trailer, Larry didn’t believe it. “I thought someone was pulling my leg for about a week,” he said. “I didn’t even send the paperwork back until my Sherwin-Williams representative, Kim Love, called me and told me that I won. She’s been very good to me over the years, and I trust her.” Larry had been thinking about getting a trailer for a few years, since they were working out of trucks that were cumbersome for transporting equipment and ladders. Now that he has his trailer, he plans to make good use of it. Larry started painting in 1974 when a friend who was in the painting business hired him for a job. “He cared deeply about his work, and I learned a lot from him,” Larry said. Now, almost 40 years later, those formative years still dictate how Larry conducts his work. “When the drywall finishers say they’re done, I take a 300 watt light bulb and carefully examine all the walls and work surfaces before starting,” he said. It’s that level of detail that has been the lifeblood of Larry’s success over the years. All of his work comes from referrals and satisfied customers. He’s never done advertising of any kind, and usually has work lined up months in advance. While his life took him in other career directions for short periods of time over the years, Larry always came back to painting. “I’ve always been drawn to it,” he said. “There are many steps to coordinating a successful painting job, and I enjoy that aspect of the work.”
Connections at Sherwin-Williams and Titan
Larry’s contact at Sherwin-Williams is Kim Love. She started her career with Sherwin-Williams 12 years ago at the Vann Drive store in Jackson, Tenn. “It was about that time that I met and started working with Larry Scarbrough,” Kim said. “I still get emotional thinking about those early days and the first time I dropped colorant into a bucket and saw that color come out. I’m very passionate about color and my job.” She was promoted to store manager and held that position for 11 years before becoming a multi-segment sales representative for the Memphis rural district in 2013. During that first year as a sales representative, Kim received Sherwin-Williams’ President Club award – the company’s highest honor for exemplary sales results. “Servicing customers and taking care of their needs are the things I love most about this job. And Sherwin-Williams is the best company I’ve ever worked for.”
John Hurt, the area Titan sales representative in Tennessee, worked with Kim to organize a breakfast party for Larry the day he picked up his new trailer. John has spent more than 30 years of experience in the paint industry, with more than a decade of those years as the Titan sales representative for Tennessee and northern Georgia Larry is well-known in the community, so many of his friends stopped by to congratulate him,” said John. “He’s a great guy and very thankful for winning the trailer from Titan. We wanted to make it a special day for him.” John and Kim have worked together for many years, and this happy occasion certainly called for celebration.
Congratulations Larry! Enjoy your new trailer.

Connections at Sherwin-Williams and Titan
In addition to Titan products, Mike has been using Sherwin-Williams paint for more than a decade. One of his main contacts at Sherwin-Williams is Daren Smith, who is a professional coatings commercial sales representative. Daren has been with Sherwin-Williams for 15 years and represents nine stores in the Boston north shore area. He’s received honors for exemplary sales, including the Sherwin-Williams President’s Club award in both 2005 and 2006, for which he won trips to the Bahamas and Hawaii (his wife cried when they left). “What I enjoy most about my job is interacting with so many different people every day, especially customers,” said Daren. “Mike Sloan is one of those customers, and I’ve known him since he started his very successful commercial painting business about 12 years ago. He could hardly believe it when he won the trailer from Titan!”
Mike’s Titan representative is Al Peters. He has spent more than 37 years working in the paint equipment industry, dating back to 1977 when he was a sales representative for Wagner. Al’s territory is the Boston area, so he works closely with Daren Smith at Sherwin Williams. “I’ve worked with Daren during all of his 15 years in the business,” he said. “He has exceptional relationships with the commercial painters in this area. I think one of the reasons he’s been so successful is he has a unique and unconventional selling style, which works effectively with his customers.” Al and Daren enjoyed partnering together to present the “Ultimate Titan Toolbox on Wheels” to a very appreciative Mike and crew at New Horizon Finishes.
Congratulations Mike! Enjoy your new set of wheels.
